I read the news today... It was darkness, it was death, it was despair Words inked in sorrow, a tale that should never be told, Of human strife, in headlines... too bold. A story so dark, with long, long shadows cast, A tale so bitter, it makes my mouth metallic, makes my breath catch, my heart ache, my skin crawl, my mind sink The ink revealed a world unkind, and cruel, Unjust Where pain and loss intertwine, why, why, why No rhyme or reason, of hearts that bled. Can hope be found in the midst of the dismal scene, In this news, bleak, gray, sad rings A plea for change, a cry for a brighter day. In the news today, I found despair, I wish I hadn't read the news today But I did. So I send out a prayer for those departed. Carrying the weight of a somber day And call out to all hearts, please, please care. May their souls rest in peace
